Position Summary:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Automotive Service Writer to join our team. The Automotive Service Writer acts as the primary point of contact between customers and the service department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive service and repair, with the ability to effectively communicate with customers about their vehicle needs. This role is responsible for understanding customer concerns, accurately documenting vehicle issues, coordinating with technicians, and ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction throughout the service process.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Service and Intake

• Greet customers and gather detailed information about vehicle issues or maintenance needs.

• Accurately document concerns on repair orders.

• Explain recommended services and repairs in a clear, professional manner.

Work Order Management

• Open and manage service tickets from check-in to completion.

• Prioritize work based on urgency, parts availability, and technician schedules.

• Monitor repair progress and update customers regularly.

Liaison Between Customer and Technician

• Communicate customer concerns to technicians.

• Review diagnostic results with technicians and relay findings to customers.

• Translate complex technical issues into understandable language.

Sales & Upselling

• Recommend preventative maintenance based on vehicle history and manufacturer guidelines.

• Present additional services and packages to improve vehicle performance and longevity.

• Secure customer approval for all repairs and services.

Administrative Duties

• Create accurate estimates, invoices, and repair documentation.

• Handle warranty claims, recalls, and service contracts.

• Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and customer interactions

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in an automotive service advisor/writer role in dealership or independent repair shop setting

• Strong knowledge of automotive systems and terminology.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Customer-first mindset with a professional and approachable demeanor.

• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

• Proficiency with shop management software and basic computer systems.

• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to various sites

• High school diploma or equivalent (automotive coursework or certifications a plus).
